Central Calif.: $100 credit or fourth night free at Dolphin Bay Resort PDF Print E-mail

The Central California coast, between Los Angeles and San Francisco, offers a wonderful array of rugged beaches, laid-back towns and eyefuls of beauty, whether you’re on the road, the trail or the waves.

If you’re looking for spacious, upscale and well-equipped accommodations, then Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa, just a couple miles up the coast from Pismo Beach, is the place to find them, according to many happy TripAdvisor travelers. And the resort is offering a couple of appealing deals this fall.

Deals: The oceanfront resort, off of Highway 1 in Shell Beach, is —among its various promotions—offering guests these options: $100 resort credit per night for certain rooms, or a fourth night free for any room type. You can’t do both in one go, unfortunately.

The resort credit is applicable for bookings of ocean-view or oceanfront rooms. You can use your credit at Lido Restaurant or at La Bonne Vie Spa, both on-site.

But if you’re staying at least four nights, you don’t need an ocean-view unit and you aren’t likely to partake of the aforementioned spa and restaurant every day, you’ll save more by taking advantage of the “Fourth Night Free” special.

The cheapest unit here, the “one bedroom deluxe villa” with “limited views,” starts at $325 per night (pretax). With 975 square feet of space, this accommodation includes a full kitchen, living room (with a sleeper sofa), dining room, private terrace and a king bed in the master suite. Each also comes with either a spa tub or fireplace.

When: Both offers are valid for stays now through Dec. 31.

Tested: For a weekend in late September, I was easily able to find availability of the “fourth night” offer. You can book online, but I felt better about calling reservations to confirm the fee and figure out the breakdown. For a one-bedroom deluxe for Sept. 24-28, I was quoted $325 per night (pretax; among the hotel’s various online specials, I saw no cheaper rate). Three nights ($975) + $60 ($20 daily resort fee, tripled) + taxes = approximately $1,138 for the three-night stay, according to the reservations person I spoke with.

If you book online, note that the discount from the free fourth night will not be reflected in the rate that comes up, but rather will be adjusted at checkout.

I wasn’t able to find the “$100 credit” special online, but the reservations person assured me that it was a straightforward process as well. Remember, though, that the credit offer is applicable only to certain rooms: For the late September dates that I checked, the ocean-view units were priced at $425 and up per night.

Note: Does a $325 sticker price seem a tad pricey? If you’re going to be spend a lot of time out and about (dining, etc.), maybe it is. But if your family or party likes to eat at “home,” in your own expansive, amenity-rich quarters, then a stay in one of these kitchen-equipped units may be a perfect fit for your time and budget.
