Nichols Hills is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, but like its neighboring city The Village, forms part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Being surrounded by Oklahoma City on all sides, Nichols Hills has absolutely no scope for further development and expansion - a typical bedroom community. It was the brainchild of Dr. G. A. Nichols in 1929 to create a community of homes alone without encroachment from commercial establishments or buildings, to create a town where life would be pleasant, without the hustle and bustle of urban living. Nichols Hills is a city with a full service government that provides water, police and fire services separate from Oklahoma City. It’s a city in its own right that has been enveloped by the growth of the vibrant Oklahoma City. Developed in the early 1930s as a primarily residential community, Nichols Hills has the reputation of containing the largest and most expensive mansions and homes in the OKC metro area. The Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, an elite private course, is located in Nichols Hills. Nichols Hills also carries the reputation of being the best educated city in the state of Oklahoma with 71.3% of adult residents holding an associate degree or higher, and 68.7% of adults possessing a baccalaureate degree or higher. Further projects currently undertaken by the City of Nichols Hills, such as the storm water drainage project and the new water storage tank are set to make the city even more pleasurable to live in for all seasons, as it always has been since its creation. OKC hotels provide shuttle services to all the major destinations in OKC and the metro area, including the residential oasis of Nichols Hills. Shane Wauhob |
